NATO: Tajani confirms commitment to military spending

Italy will confirm to NATO summit in Ankara his commitment toincrease in military spending. This was assured by the Foreign Minister, Antonio to Tajani, during question time in the Chamber. “At the Ankara summit we will confirm our commitment on military spending, a courageous and necessary step to protect our freedom and the safety of citizens,” he said.

“Italy wants to be a protagonist in the process of strengthening the European pillar of Defense”, he explained, “transatlantic cooperation is solid and concrete in all the main strategic quadrants, fromUkraine to the Middle East. We work in close coordination with European partners and the US administration to achieve long-term peace and stability.”

“Ignorance from Rutte”

Then Tajani returned to deny the NATO secretary general about the use of Italian bases for the war in Iran. “It was not a NATO operation and therefore it is difficult that Rutte could have known.” Rutte’s statements, he insisted, were “ill-advised and untrue statements”.
