Team boss confirms: Lewis Hamilton will remain a Ferrari driver

“I can confirm that Lewis Hamilton will also be a Ferrari driver in 2027.”

That’s what the team boss said Fred Vasseur opposite that Corriere della Sera and at the same time fixed the driver pairing for the next Formula 1 season, as teammate Charles Leclerc has a contract until the end of 2028 and is therefore set at the Scuderia anyway. Recently there were question marks about how record world champion Hamilton’s career would continue after 2026. Now there is certainty.

The Brit and Vasseur have known each other for over two decades. Together they won the GP2 championship in 2006. At that time, Hamilton drove for ART – the team whose founders are Vasseur and Nicolas Todt.

Perfect start to training

The home Grand Prix in Silverstone got off to a perfect start for Hamilton. The record winner of the Great Britain race (nine wins) dominated Friday’s training in 1:29.260 minutes. World Championship leader Kimi Antonelli took second place in the Mercedes. The Italian was 0.213 seconds behind. The gap to Leclerc, who was 0.599 seconds behind, was larger.

Hamilton had a special helmet design made for the ninth race weekend of this year’s Formula 1 season, which is a homage to his beginnings in karting.
