The DFB now wants to hold talks with Klopp, who is said to have already signaled his general willingness to take over the coaching position. The German national team’s next game is in the Nations League against the Netherlands in September.

Before making personnel decisions, however, the DFB must first clarify the fundamental questions regarding content, demanded Hitzlsperger. “What happens after Andreas Rettig’s departure? What happens to Rudi Völler? And sit down with all the youth coaches who can better assess whether we have a problem with the youngsters or not. These conversations have to be had,” the 52-time national player appealed to the association.
