Spanish cinema has a turnover of more than 59 million euros in the first six months of the year, almost 30 million more than in 2025

The Spanish cinema In the first six months of the year, it has managed to invoice a total of 59,350,530 million euros, almost double that in the same period of 2025, when 29,993,642 million euros were achievedaccording to provisional data as of June 28 from the Ministry of Culture, collected by Europa Press.

The large increase compared to the previous year is mainly due to the success of ‘Torrent, president’by Santiago Segura, which in its sixth installment has earned more than 28 million euros and has managed to be the best theatrical release of a Spanish film in the last eleven yearsas well as being the best premiere of a +16 comedy (Spanish and international cinema) in history in Spain and the fourth best premiere of Spanish cinema in history.

The figure for the first months of 2026 is expected to increase slightly with films that have recently been released, such as ‘Everything we never were’by Jorge Alonso, which is ranked 11th among films with the highest box office, achieving more than 900,000 euros despite the fact that it premiered on June 5; ‘The light’, by Fernando Franco, which is in 17th place with more than 600,000 euros since its premiere also on June 5; ‘Journey to the country of the whites’by Dani Sancho, which in two days has raised 163,000 euros, among others.

The highest grossing movie is ‘Torrent, president’which since its premiere on March 13 has raised more than 28 million euros and has achieved 3.7 million viewers. Segura’s film is followed by ‘There and back’by Paco León’, which has garnered more than five million euros and 734,110 viewers since January 30; ‘Tremendous grandmother’by Ana Vázquez, which premiered on January 1 and has earned more than three million euros and 431,587 viewers.

In fourth place is ‘Bitter Christmas’by Pedro Almodóvar, which premiered on March 20 and has collected more than 2.6 million euros and more than 385,000 spectators; while in fifth place is ‘The Benetón family+2’by Joaquín Mazón, with 2.2 million euros and 327,996 viewers since April 17.

Behind them are ‘Idols’, by Mat Whitecross, which since its premiere on January 23 has accumulated a gross of 2 million euros and nearly 292,000 viewers, and ‘Rondalas’, by Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, which exceeds 2.06 million euros and has more than 318,000 attendees since its arrival in theaters on January 1.

They complete the ten highest-grossing Spanish films ‘Three goodbyes’by Isabel Coixet, with 1.31 million euros and more than 205,000 viewers since February 6; ‘Balandrau, wild wind’by Fernando Trullols, with 1.28 million euros and around 184,000 attendees since February 20; and ‘On Sundays’by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa and big winner in the awards season, which exceeds one million euros in revenue and reaches 156,000 viewers since its premiere on October 24, 2025.

SPECTATORS

Regarding the total number of spectators who have attended theaters in the first six months of the year, more than 8.5 million people have attended a movie, which is almost double last year, when 4.5 million people registered. This number also exceeds the data from 2024 and 2023, when they were 3.5 million and 5.5 million, respectively.

At the end of 2025, theater attendance registered more than 79 million euros and more than 12 million spectators, numbers lower than those recorded in 2024, 2023 and 2022.
