Trump declares end of ceasefire with Iran

United States President Donald Trump said this Wednesday (8) that the Islamabad Memorandum, which last month extended the ceasefire with Iran for 60 days, “has come to an end”.

“It’s a waste of time to negotiate with them (Iranians),” declared Trump during the NATO summit, which is being held in Ankara, Turkey.

The Islamabad Memorandum was signed by the United States and Iran on the 17th and established guidelines to end the war that began on February 28, with the goal that a definitive agreement to end the conflict would be signed within 60 days.

However, the two sides have been exchanging attacks in recent weeks over shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz, which Tehran claims must be authorized and controlled by the regime.

On Tuesday (7), the United States launched attacks against Iran and reimposed sanctions on Iranian oil, after the Islamic regime attacked commercial ships in the strait region.

This Wednesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had attacked American military targets in Bahrain and Kuwait.

According to information from CNN, Trump described Iran’s rulers as “evil and sick people”, “scum” and “dirty negotiators”.

Despite stating that negotiators on both sides can “continue talking if they want”, the American president suggested that major attacks will continue to be carried out against Iran.

“We have to get rid of this cancer. And do you know what needs to be done? You have to remove the cancer right from the beginning. That’s how I think,” he said.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian criticized Trump on X, citing the football World Cup, in which the United States imposed movement restrictions on the Iranian team.

“The US government’s conduct as host of the World Cup follows its usual foreign policy: bending rules, intimidating rivals, creating obstacles and cheating. This is their MAGA playbook. Iran rejects such games. We firmly defend our rights,” Pezeshkian wrote.
