The writer Arturo Pérez-Reverte will publish his new novel on October 20, ‘The most dangerous hypothesis’ (Alfaguara), a story of adventure and initiation about the Mediterranean as a living memory of History: a sea where the echo of battles, exiles, pirates, disappeared empires, legends, ancient gods, classic books and human defeats still resonate, as the publisher announced this Wednesday.

The book tells the story of Cal Gadea, a sixteen-year-old boy raised by his grandparents and fascinated by video games, who finds the man he has been looking for for a long time: Asier Lerrant, the father he never knew. Gadea locates Lerrant in a Mediterranean port following some vague clues and an old photograph, moved by a question that has tormented him since he was a child: why that man abandoned his mother and also left him out of his story.

The plot continues aboard a sailboat where stolen art is trafficked. There, father and son will embark on a journey in which Cal’s intimate search intersects with a historical enigma and a police plot. Lerrant, a hermetic, harsh and difficult to decipher man, will teach the boy to navigate, to anticipate danger and to understand that, on a boat as in life, certain rules are a way of survival.
