Legal blow to Trump: will transfer 5 million dollars to the island. Jean Carroll

Judge Kaplan’s decision came just hours after Trump’s lawyers petitioned the court not to release the funds held in trust. This amount, which grew to about $5.8 million due to the accumulation of interest, was deposited by the former president in a court-supervised account to allow him to appeal the verdict. Trump’s legal team has demanded that the funds be frozen until the US Supreme Court decides whether to rehear his appeal of the 2023 jury verdict.

According to the former president’s attorneys, waiting for the Supreme Court’s ruling on his request for reconsideration will not harm Kroll, but transferring the funds now will cause Trump “irreversible damage.” The documents submitted to the court state that Carol stated in the past that she intends to donate all the funds she collects, therefore if the funds are transferred to third parties, it is likely that they will not be returned in the event that the appeal is accepted and the verdict is overturned.

On the other hand, Carol’s lawyers demanded the release of the money immediately, after the Supreme Court last week rejected Trump’s request to appeal the ruling, a decision that for them marked the end of the legal process on the matter.

A spokesman for Trump’s team said in response that “the American people stand by President Trump and demand an immediate end to all witch hunts funded by the Democrats”, adding that the former president will continue to win in his fight against the “legal warfare”. At the same time, Trump immediately submitted an official notice of his intention to appeal the decision to release the funds as well.

This case is one of two major lawsuits filed by Carol against Trump, based on her claim that he assaulted her in a dressing room at a luxury department store in Manhattan in 1996. In addition to the current amount, Trump indicated that he intends to ask the Supreme Court to also review the jury verdict in the second lawsuit, which ordered him to pay Carol $83 million in damages for defamatory statements he made against her in the past. According to a CNN report, Trump has until the end of this month to file this petition.
