OpenAI presents ChatGPT Work and artificial intelligence becomes an operational agent

OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Work, a new paradigm of interaction with artificial intelligence that moves from the model of simple textual assistance to that of an operational agent capable of managing complex projects. The system is supported by the new GPT-5.6 model architecture, consisting of three variants: Sol optimized for top performance in areas such as cybersecurity and scientific research; Terrabalanced configuration for daily productivity; And Lunafocused on maximizing computational cost efficiency.

The technological core of ChatGPT Work lies in the Codex integration, which allows the agent to operate across web, desktop systems and workflows based on external applications. Users can now automate recurring tasks via Scheduled Tasks scheduling and interact with local software or built-in browsers with the Computer Use feature. “GPT-5.6 Sol offers excellent performance in terms of intelligence and efficiency in areas such as coding, knowledge-based work, cybersecurity and scientific research, using fewer tokens and with a lower estimated cost”, said Emmanuel Marill, Managing Director EMEA at OpenAI.

In terms of technical performance, the benchmark data highlights a leap in quality compared to current standards. In the Agents’ Last Exam test, the Sol model recorded a score of 53.6, outperforming competing solutions in terms of logical reasoning ability while optimizing token consumption. Particularly notable is the progress in the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index, where the model set a new record of 80.0 points, significantly reducing execution times and operational costs. Even in the field of cybersecurity, the ExploitBench benchmark indicates an improvement in the ability to identify and execute vulnerable code, going from 47.9% of the predecessor GPT-5.5 to 73.5% of the new series.

The ecosystem is completed by an Ultra modewhich allows parallel coordination of multiple agents for the acceleration of complex projects, and a unified plugin directory that enables synchronization with professional suites such as Google Workspace, Slack and various CRM systems. The release of ChatGPT Work and the new unified desktop app is happening globally, making new features progressively accessible across Mac and Windows systems. The integration of such tools aims to define a new standard in the automation of cognitive work, where the machine does not simply generate content, but executes the entire life cycle of a complex business process.
