La Jornada: Binational alliance extends the Mundo Maya tourist route to Cuba

With the support of the Cuban embassy in Mexico, three tourism companies signed an alliance to promote a tourist circuit between both nations, which not only strengthens the multi-destination in the Caribbean, but also supports the island after the tightening of the economic blockade.

Popular Tourism, Taino Tours and Prelasa signed the pact to develop a multi-destination package that will connect the Mexican Mayan World with Cuba.

At the signing of the agreement, Aleinor Zerquera, Cuban Tourism Minister in Mexico, pointed out that the objective is to expand the regional offer. He noted that this is the beginning of a series of joint projects that will strengthen the flow of visitors to both destinations. “The trust that we have all placed in each other will bring many results. These alliances are what will strengthen and contribute to ensuring that our country, the Cuban revolution, remains alive, and that Cuba in the Caribbean continues to be the flagship of tourism for its natural, geographical, cultural and historical benefits, but above all, for its people,” he stated.

The agreement incorporates Cuba as an extension of the renowned Mundo Maya tourist circuit, which will allow travelers to enjoy in the same tour archaeological sites and Mexican heritage cities, as well as the heritage declared by UNESCO, colonial cities, music and Cuban beaches.

Jaime Morett, general director of Popular Tourism, stressed: “This agreement transcends the good intentions and good desires that we sometimes have to develop products and routes. Thinking about our Mayan World from a regional perspective is extremely difficult to achieve alone.”

Érick Gómez, general director of Taino Tours, highlighted that the alliance seeks to promote operations that attract visitors from America and other international markets. Mario Escalona, ​​general director of Prelasa, agreed that the agreement is more than a document. “This act symbolizes mutual trust, willingness to work together and the commitment to continue strengthening historical ties.”

The first multi-destination package will be launched in August, with integration of flights between Cancun and Havana, and will take advantage of the attraction of the Varadero Festival as a cultural pretext to complement the Mayan World experience.
