Bundesliga: RB coach Demichelis relies on aggressiveness and intensity

Argentinian Martín Demichelis wants to bring a lot of passion to his RB Leipzig team as he pursues his dream as a Bundesliga coach. “It’s an honor for me to be part of this club. I want to take the next step forward together with everyone. Intensity, passion, courageous, offensive – these are words that I really like. Also aggressiveness and intensity, with every contact, playing forward courageously, defending courageously, showing body language,” said the 45-year-old Argentine at his introduction.

Clear announcement from Diomande

The former world-class defender had already been in contact with all of Leipzig’s World Cup players, including Yan Diomande, who was courted by top clubs. “Yan still has a contract and has to come back,” said Demichelis and agrees with sports director Marcel Schäfer on the Ivorian’s personality: “He should enjoy his vacation. We have the clear intention that we should accompany players here for more than a year,” said Schäfer and sees even more potential in the dribbling artist.

Demichelis, who described Germany as his second home, sees “no limit to the development of football,” he emphasized. Sports director Schäfer sees the new signing as a “new era”. Predecessor Ole Werner had to leave RB after just one year despite third place and qualification for the Champions League.

Gruda agreement is expected

After the new signings Abdoul Koné and Rocco Reitz, Brajan Gruda, who is due to return on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion with a new obligation to buy, is also expected to train soon. According to Schäfer, more personal details such as a transfer of French central defender Maxime Esteve are not yet ready.
