70 million for Freiburg?: Media: Aston Villa beats Newcastle in Manzambi poker

According to Sky, Villa will pay almost 70 million euros including bonus payments, slightly more than the transfer fee that Freiburg is said to have negotiated with Newcastle. However, Manzambi was unable to agree on a contract with the Magpies and instead gave his commitment to a move to Villa.

Record revenue for Freiburg

Manzambi moved from Servette Geneva to Freiburg in January 2023. For the Breisgauer it would be the highest income for a player transfer. Offensive player Kevin Schade, who was sold to FC Brentford in England in the summer of 2023 for reportedly around 25 million euros, is considered Freiburg’s record departure so far.
