Zelensky explained why he removed Fedorov from the post of Defense Minister

At a meeting with journalists on July 16, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky explained his decision to remove Mikhail Fedorov from the post of Minister of Defense. This decision sparked protest demonstrations throughout Ukraine.

The head of state explained his decision by differences between Fedorov and the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky, who were unable to find a common language. According to him, there is a “complex dialogue” between the ministry and the command, the reasons for which are not only personal.

“And therefore, when we talk about issues of the battlefield, operations, the situation in brigades, TCC, “busification”, which also exist, we must recognize what we have is right and what is wrong and shameful. These problems need to be solved together,” Ukrainian Pravda quotes Zelensky.

“I would really like unity. The parties have not found it. And this is not only the parties’ problem, but also mine. I do not abdicate responsibility. And I respect the parties, I know their advantages, I know their disadvantages and I really want them to strengthen Ukraine. But there is what is. And in such a situation, the way out is either one side or the other, because without me they do not communicate,” the president said.

Meanwhile, Fedorov himself stated that the reason for the resignation was the ultimatum presented by Syrsky to Zelensky. “We are faced with the fact that all the initiatives that we propose have begun to be blocked. And Syrsky, given all the problems that we talked about, is not ready to personally and openly talk about the problems,” said the outgoing minister.
