Trump blames Iran for Houthi attacks in the Red Sea and threatens to attack both if they shoot at ships

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, blamed Iran this Thursday for the attacks launched by the Houthi rebels against Saudi ships in the Red Sea, threatening to attack both if the Yemeni militia continues shooting at ships in the Bab el Mandeb pass.

In a message on social networks, the American president has criticized that the Houthis have launched attacks against Saudi Arabia, reigniting the conflict they maintain, pointing directly to Tehran as responsible for this escalation. “If they do it again, the United States will hold Iran responsible, since the Houthis act as a representative and/or proxy group for Iran,” he indicated.

The American leader recalled that Washington already attacked the Houthis “with great force” for interfering with international trade and navigation in the Red Sea at the beginning of last year. “Since then, and during our conflict with Iran, they have acted very responsibly,” he stressed, lamenting that “unfortunately, they are now starting again.”

“Iran will receive severe military punishment and, of course, also the Houthis themselves, with whom I am very disappointed, since until now they have behaved in a very professional and intelligent manner,” he warned, threatening military retaliation against both.

Yemeni militiamen have claimed responsibility for attacks against several Saudi ships in the area, thus fulfilling their threat of a naval blockade that they had been announcing in recent days in response to the attacks perpetrated by the United States against Iran.
