Romania shoots down drone over its airspace for the first time

According to the president, the drone was shot down while it was flying over an uninhabited area. Previously, the authorities had issued official air raid warnings (RO Alert) for three districts – Buzau, Prahova and Braila.

It is currently unclear whether the unmanned flying object was a combat drone loaded with explosives or a reconnaissance drone. According to the Romanian authorities, the drone remains will be examined in detail, including their design.

This is the second serious drone incident since the beginning of the year, after a Russian Geran 2 combat drone crashed into a high-rise building in the eastern Romanian port city of Galati at the end of May, injuring two people. Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in neighboring Ukraine, almost 30 airspace violations by drones have been recorded in Romania.
