The sister of Eden Ben-Ruby, who died at the Nova festival, was subjected to anti-Semitic insults in the United States.

Maya, the cousin of Eden Ben-Ruby, who died at the Nova Festival, told Mako that she was subjected to anti-Semitic abuse after posting an ad for free items on Facebook Marketplace. Maya, an Israeli-American, lives in Los Angeles.

She said that after reaching out to a man who expressed interest in one of the items, the next day she received a message from his wife, Rima Jayousi, a nurse anesthesiologist at a California hospital.

“She wrote to me, ‘I don’t want anything for free from dirty Jews.’ I was shocked,” Maya recalls. “I never indicated that I was Jewish or Israeli. I was simply being kind and wanted to give away the items for free.”

According to Maya, the woman continued to hurl insults and called Jews “the most disgusting people in the world.” Later, the nurse also accused Jews of “committing genocide practically all over the world.”

Maya believes the woman visited her Facebook page, saw posts commemorating her 23-year-old cousin Eden, and thus realized Maya was Jewish. “I often write about Eden and what happened at the festival. I think that’s how she figured it out.”
