Advertising for the Bundesliga: BVB boss would also like other clubs to travel abroad

Borussia Dortmund club boss Carsten Cramer would like to see more commitment from other Bundesliga clubs in foreign marketing. “We should be aware of the opportunities that lie in foreign marketing – and not always immediately talk about a possible risk. I think it’s a shame that after the World Cup only Bayern and we will be traveling again,” said the 57-year-old to the “WAZ”.

BVB is currently on a trip to Japan, FC Bayern Munich is flying to South Korea and Hong Kong at the beginning of August. Problems with finding the right time for such strenuous trips in the middle of pre-season preparation are something “all Bundesliga clubs have – Bayern even more so because of the large number of national players,” said Cramer in a media round. Immediately after the most recent season and before the World Cup, RB Leipzig also traveled to South Africa.

BVB earns money from the trip

The BVB managing director also mentioned a possible reason that could deter German clubs that are less well-known and successful abroad. It is “a sign of Borussia Dortmund’s strength that we also earn money with these trips,” he explained. “What I can understand a little bit is that it is of course more difficult for one or two Bundesliga teams to implement such a trip for the sport if, in case of doubt, they earn relatively little money or perhaps even no money at all.”

Cramer added: “But if you just keep making demands – and we now have a decent TV contract in Japan too – without being represented in the markets again and again, then you shouldn’t be surprised if no money comes in.”
