Israel announces the destruction of a Hezbollah tunnel next to a UNIFIL post in Lebanon

The Israeli Army announced this Wednesday the destruction of a tunnel supposedly belonging to the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah and located next to a construction material factory near a post of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon.

This operation was carried out in the town of Haddatha, in the Bint Jbeil district, in the buffer zone created by Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, as reported by the Armed Forces in a statement in which they specified that the troops found a 55-meter-long tunnel in the area.

Thus, they have indicated that this tunnel also had three surrounding rooms and “was used by Hezbollah as an operations center.” “It was built under a construction material factory and just 300 meters from the UNIFIL building,” they maintained.

“The engineering teams have blown up the tunnel,” they said, before emphasizing that there were dozens of weapons stored nearby.

REPORT OF HEZBOLLAH ATTACKS IN SOUTHERN LEBANON

Previously, Israeli forces have confirmed that there has been an attack against a vehicle in the south of the country, which is the first attack of this type since the agreement reached between Israel and Lebanon in June, although they have ruled out the presence of victims or injuries.

However, the Israeli authorities have pointed out that this is a “flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreed between the parties.” In addition, he has maintained that Hezbollah has a “large underground complex near Nabatiyé”, which is why they suggest that dozens of members of the party-militia would be in the area.

Despite the signing of the agreement, the Lebanese Army has denounced that intermittent attacks and incursions by the Armed Forces have continued throughout this time, hindering safe deployment in the agreed areas. Furthermore, the pact is rejected by Hezbollah, which insists on not making concessions to Israel.

Added to this is the ceasefire formally in force since April 17 in accordance with the terms agreed by the United States and Iran in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, an agreement that has already been violated by both parties, which have recently resumed attacks.

The tensions surrounding Israel’s actions in Lebanon are accompanied by warnings from Tehran that these acts constitute violations of the pre-agreement and could definitively ruin the peace process in the Middle East.
