Following the collapse at the Weser Stadium: Werder Bremen: Block 53 should be rebuilt by October

Three weeks after the partial collapse of a stand at the Weser Stadium, it is becoming clear when Block 53, and thus the home of SV Werder Bremen, will be fully usable again.

“We’re not expecting it to be ready for the start of the season. We’re not expecting it to be ready for the second home game either,” said Hans-Jörg Otto, Managing Director of Bremer Weser-Stadion GmbH. “But we believe that we should be able to fully utilize Block 53 again by the third home game.”

A full stadium again for the match against Paderborn?

That would be the match on the weekend of October 16-18 against newly promoted SC Paderborn. Demolition work in the damaged section of the stadium began this week, said Otto. “We are well on schedule.”

During renovation work in part of the VIP area, where window panes were to be removed, a supporting column was unintentionally damaged at the beginning of July. This led to a partial collapse. Approximately 500 seats are affected.

Spectators can jump again even after construction work.

He understands that spectators might feel a little uneasy. “It’s just as safe as before,” said Otto. Spectators can jump and hop at every goal.

Season ticket holders affected by the construction will be given alternative seats until the work is completed. As a result, fewer tickets will be available for general sale.
