Munar and Bouzas save the debut and the rain in Canada

The Spanish tennis player Jaume Munar surpassed his debut in the Montreal tournament this Sunday, the sixth ATP Masters 1000 of the season, in the same way that Jéssica Bouzas advanced to the second round, both partly avoiding the ravages of the rain that, also at the WTA 1000 event in Toronto, marked the first day in Canada.

Munar won 7-6(3), 6-3 against Australian Rinky Hijikata, a match that was stopped for more than an hour due to rain. The Spaniard had the first set under control, but was forced to win it in sudden death, where he regained his strength to take the lead. In the second set, Hijikata started better.

The Spaniard lost his kickoff but added five games in a row to win the match. The last one had the suspense of that long break, with 5-3 and 30-40. However, upon returning to the court, Munar saved the break ball and certified his victory on the fast track, which now places him with the Belgian Alexander Blockx.

The delay accumulated by the rain forced the organization to cancel several matches in Montreal, including the one that the Spanish Martín Landaluce had scheduled against the Colombian Nicolás Mejía, postponed to this Monday.

In the WTA tournament being held in Toronto, the rain also made an appearance, but Bouzas entered seriously into her debut against local tennis player Ariana Arseneault to win with authority 6-2, 6-4. The Galician, in search of her best version in a complicated season, will now face the ninth seed, the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina.

Meanwhile, Cristina Busca’s match was even more delayed, who said goodbye to the Japanese Moyuka Uchijima, first rival of number one Aryna Sabalenka. The Spaniard lost 6-3 and 6-4, in a quick match where she had her options, running into the resistance of the Asian in the first set and then letting a 1-4 escape in the second.
