Iran executed two people accused of spying for Israel

Omid Behzad and Pouria Safwat were charged with passing coordinates, photos and other information of military and security facilities to Israel during the latest conflict, the Mizan news agency of Iran’s judiciary reported.

Human Rights Watch reported on July 24 that at least 50 people have been executed in Iran over the past four months on vaguely worded national security charges, including several 18- and 19-year-olds.

Iran’s Permanent Representation in Geneva did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment. Tehran has previously denied accusations of oppression of prisoners.

According to human rights groups including Amnesty International, Iran has the second-highest death penalty rate after China.
