Even younger than Lilli Tagger: The youngest winners in tennis

Tracy Austin
The American was only 14 years and 28 days old when she won her first tournament in Portland in 1977 and remains the youngest winner on the WTA Tour. Austin was considered a child prodigy; she won the US Open in 1979 at the age of 16 and also led the world rankings from July 7th to November 17th, 1980. But nothing came of a long career; due to persistent health (back) problems, she had to resign when she was not even 21 years old. A comeback attempt at the age of 26 failed.

Kathy Rinaldi 
The Florida woman turned pro in 1981 and won her first tournament in Kyoto at the age of 14 years, 6 months and 24 days. Three more tournament victories followed, and she climbed to 7th place in the world rankings. In 1997, at the age of 30, she ended her career.

Andrea Jaeger
At the age of 14 years, 7 months and 14 days, Andrea Jaeger won the tournament in Las Vegas in 1980. After victories over Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova, she reached second place in the world rankings. A shoulder injury ended her career when she was just 20 years old. In 2006 she became a nun in the Anglican Church and left the order in 2009.

Jennifer Capriati
Jennifer Capriati had a great career. At 14 years, 6 months and 29 days, she won the 1990 tournament in Puerto Rico. As a result, she won the 1992 Olympic title in Barcelona after a final victory over Steffi Graf and three Grand Slam titles. She was number 1 in the world rankings for 17 weeks and earned more than $10 million in prize money. But Capriati also made negative headlines. In 1993 she was caught shoplifting and a year later was imprisoned for marijuana possession. In 2013, her ex-boyfriend reported her for assault.

Martina Hingis
The Swiss is the youngest winner of a Grand Slam tournament. At the age of 16 years and 177 days, she triumphed at the Australian Open in 1997. In total she won 38 individual titles and was at the top of the world rankings for 209 weeks. She ended her career in 2017 at the age of 37.
