Gonzalo García leaves Real Madrid and signs for Fulham, Arbeloa’s club

Spanish striker Gonzalo García will play for Fulham FC, managed by former Real Madrid player Álvaro Arbeloa, for the next five seasons, until 2031, after Real Madrid and the English club reached an agreement for his transfer, both clubs confirmed on Monday.

“Real Madrid CF and Fulham FC have agreed to the transfer of our player Gonzalo García. Gonzalo has always exemplified the values ​​of Real Madrid. Our club thanks him for his commitment and dedication over all these years. Real Madrid, which will always be his home, wishes him and his family all the best in this new chapter of his life,” the Madrid club stated in a press release.

The 22-year-old striker has signed a five-year contract, with an option to extend it for a further year. “I’m very grateful and very happy to be here. I want to thank the board and Arbeloa for the trust they’ve placed in me, and I’m very, very excited to get started,” Gonzalo told the British club’s official media.

García, 22, will reunite with his former coach Arbeloa, although this time at Fulham FC in England, where he will compete in the Premier League with the aim of establishing himself as one of the great promises of Spanish and European football. To achieve this, he will have the confidence of the Salamanca-born coach, who already knows his strengths and potential after managing him at Real Madrid during the 2025-26 season.

Born in Madrid, the young footballer joined Real Madrid’s youth academy, La Fábrica, as a youth player and progressed through all the categories until making his debut in 2022, at the age of 18, with Real Madrid Castilla, then managed by former player and coach Raúl González Blanco, in Primera Federación, the third tier of Spanish football.

In the 2023-2024 season, he made his debut with the first team away against Cádiz CF, and a week later, at the Santiago Bernabéu against Granada CF. It wasn’t until the summer of 2025, with the arrival of former Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso, that he established himself as a first-team player, finishing as the top scorer in that year’s FIFA Club World Cup with four goals in six matches.

Last season, the striker participated in 30 league matches, scoring six goals, including a hat-trick against Real Betis, five Champions League matches, two Spanish Super Cup matches, and two Copa del Rey matches, scoring one goal in each competition.
