This Thursday, the European Parliament holds an extraordinary debate on the Ceuta crisis promoted by the PP

The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament will hold an extraordinary meeting this Thursday to address the migration crisis registered in Ceuta, in a session promoted by the Popular Party in which the European Commissioner for the Interior and Migration, Magnus Brunner, and the president of the Autonomous City, Juan Jesús Vivas, will participate.

The meeting, which will be held electronically between 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and to which the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, have also been invited, although at the moment they have not confirmed their attendance, will consist of an “exchange of opinions on the situation”, according to the agenda.

“The extraordinary meeting with the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs commission will be a good opportunity to exchange points of view on the current situation and the lessons learned from the events in Ceuta,” Brunner said in a message published on his social networks.

Also the president of said parliamentary commission, the ‘popular’ MEP, Javier Zarzalejos, has defended the holding of this meeting and has stressed that “the success of European migration policy depends on each link in the chain being strong”, advocating “ensuring” the “defense of borders” and “guaranteeing effective returns”.

The session will take place two days after the extraordinary meeting of EU Interior Ministers called to analyze what happened in Ceuta and the initiative of the Spanish delegation of the PP to formally demand from the European Parliament a specific debate on this crisis during the September plenary session in Strasbourg.

In a letter sent to the MEPs, the ‘popular’ denounced that the management of Pedro Sánchez’s Government puts “national and European sovereignty in danger” and defended that what happened in the Spanish enclave “transcends a migration crisis”, since, in their opinion, it also affects the protection of the Union’s external border and the credibility of the Schengen area.
