Antitrust, fine of 2.6 million to Bird, Dott and Lime in Rome

The Competition and Market Authority has concluded the investigations, started in November 2025, against the three operators authorized to carry out the micromobility service (e-bikes and electric scooters) in the territory of the Municipality of Rome, for the period 2023-2026.

Bird, Dott and Lime were fined a total of 2.675 million euros for having hindered the use of free ride packages (so-called Passes), reserved for annual Metrebus season ticket holders, the travel ticket for Roman local public transport, according to the obligations assumed by the operators when awarding the service.

The reasons for the antitrust fine

In particular, the Authority considered that the three companies had adopted measures and organizational structures inadequate to manage user requests, making activation difficult and the wait for the release of the Passes long and, consequently, reducing the time available to users to use them.

For Bird arbitrary deactivation of accounts

Furthermore, with respect to Bird, the Authority also ascertained another unfair commercial practice, namely the arbitrary deactivation of accounts, without prior information on the circumstances that legitimized it and without cross-examination with the users.

The sanctioned conduct has a strong impact on consumers, because the three companies have limited the use of a mobility service which is complementary to local public transport and more sustainable, thanks to the use of less polluting means.
