Electronic music legend William Orbit, producer of stars like Madonna, has died.

Producer, composer, and electronic musician William Orbit passed away on July 23rd at the age of 69 at his home, as announced on August 7th in a statement posted on his Instagram account.

“We are deeply saddened by his passing. He will be greatly missed, as will so many others whose lives he touched through his music, friendship, and generosity,” the statement reads, requesting privacy for his family and friends without providing further details about the cause of death.

Orbit worked with stars such as Madonna (on albums like ‘Ray of Light,’ which relaunched her fame) and Blur (’13’), as well as U2, Pink, and Britney Spears, among many others.

Condolences have poured in on social media, including those from DJ Ferry Corsten: “He had a truly unique way of seeing music. He never followed the obvious path. He constantly challenged conventions, embraced the unexpected, and created sounds that seemed ahead of their time.”

“Every time we worked together, I felt inspired. Not only by his incredible talent, but also by his curiosity, his candor, and the courage with which he approached creativity,” he adds in his post.

Born in London in 1956, Orbit was part of the trio ‘Torch Song’ with Grant Gilbert and Laurie Mayer. After signing with IRS Records, he began working as a producer. Among his early projects was the soundtrack for the film ‘Youngblood’, starring Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze.
