The United States is “proceeding discreetly” with Iran, but continues to exert economic pressure on Tehran, US President Donald Trump said in a brief telephone conversation with Axios.

“We’re only partially negotiating with them. We’re simply watching Iran with its massive inflation and the fact that they don’t have money,” he added.

Iran’s Economic Situation

According to Trump, Iran “is in a terrible economic situation” and doesn’t have the money to pay its troops. The US naval blockade has exacerbated the Iranian regime’s economic crisis. At the same time, the US president said that, with oil prices down to just over $75 a barrel, US consumers are feeling the effects of the war less.

“Everything will be resolved. Everything always is. It’s like a game of chess,” Trump said of the standoff with Tehran.
