Milei government reiterates that Brazil finances anti-Argentina campaign

The matter was addressed by the presidency spokesperson, Adrián Ravier, at a press conference. According to information from the newspaper La Nación, when asked about the matter, he replied that “there are sources coming from social networks that would need to be evaluated”.

“In principle, what we observe is a feeling or animosity directed at Argentines in the context of the World Cup and at the president himself, due to the liberalism he represents. Ultimately, this suggests that the feeling does not just concern the Argentine team — such as, for example, if they play violently or break some rule — but involves something more related to the president”, accused Ravier.

“We would need to seek out the sources mentioned in relation to the Democratic Party [dos Estados Unidos]Brazil, Mexico or Spain. I do not have these sources available to present now, but we will provide them later”, added the Casa Rosada spokesperson.

Milei began making accusations that Brazil was one of those responsible for an anti-Argentina campaign after his participation in the Liberal Party (PL) convention in São Paulo, held on July 25 and in which ally Flávio Bolsonaro was confirmed as a presidential candidate.

On that occasion, Milei called President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva a “thief” and “prisoner”, starting a series of comments that made Brazil downgrade relations between the two countries, by determining that its ambassador in Buenos Aires, Julio Bitelli, will not return to Argentina.

In an interview published over the weekend by the Argentine newspaper Clarín, the Brazilian chancellor, Mauro Vieira, said that the normalization of relations with the neighboring country will only occur if Milei stops the “aggressions” against Lula.
