Today is celebrated World Photography Day and for this reason the Association of Professional Photographers of Spain (AFPE) celebrates the entry into force of the Article 50 of the Artificial Intelligence law of the European Union, which forces companies to label clearly and visible any photorealistic image generated or manipulated with IA that pretends to be authentic.
In statements to Europa Press Televisón, the president of the Association of Professional Photographers of Spain (AFPE), Eva Casadohas highlighted the importance of vindicating the work of professional photographers, ensuring that “In the end it is the memory that remains with you and it is real.
Casado has celebrated the entry into force of the European Union’s artificial intelligence law on August 2, which includes article 50 on labeling content generated by AI, stating that “everything that is photorealistic has to carry a label saying that It’s artificial intelligence with which it will be possible to know if it is or is not.” The photographer has stressed that companies are obliged to comply with this regulation, since “if they are not going to have a fine of up to 3% of your profit.
He has insisted that the human gaze of the photographer is an element that cannot be falsified, explaining that “the human gaze can’t be faked and if you have a product or you have a person, the photograph you take of that person is that person.” Casado has warned about the problems generated by the use of AI in certain sectors, indicating that “the sectors that are being most affected by artificial intelligence are the product, stock, advertising or fashion photographers“because “in the end agencies and clients think that it is much easier to make the image with AI.”
The president of the association has stressed that the new regulations are favoring the resurgence of the photographic profession, ensuring that “this law that has now come into force has been very good for us because clients are realizing that they have to start using photographers again because AI has that problem that It doesn’t show you what’s real.”
Finally, Casado has warned about the negative consequences that the perception of images generated by AI generates in consumers, pointing out that “there have been studies that when people see that the image is AI feels much more distrustful and the problem of feeling distrust is that they don’t buy from you”, which directly harms companies that use this type of content.
