Kan-11: Saudi Arabia asked the US to start a war against the Houthis, but Washington refused

According to the TV channel, the request was conveyed in mid-August during a meeting between Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman and the commander of the US Central Command, Brad Cooper.

Washington has said it is not ready to lead a military campaign, in particular because the Houthis are not currently attacking American ships in the Red Sea. At the same time, the United States made it clear to Riyadh that it would support Saudi Arabia’s military operation against the Houthis.

As Kan-11 notes, the Saudi authorities are seeking to avoid new direct intervention in the war in Yemen, taking into account the experience of the previous multi-year campaign. The United States, in turn, does not want to take on another military campaign in the Middle East.
