Alarms via cell phones and sirens: This is what happened on the warning day in Potsdam

A test warning will be sent out from 11 a.m. on the warning day. The all-clear was given at around 11:45 a.m. The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief triggers the test warning via the so-called Modular Warning System (Mowas). This is linked to many warning channels. At the same time, the participating states and municipalities trigger local warning devices such as sirens.

Potsdam is also connected to the Mowas system. Among other things, sirens, warning apps, cell broadcast, digital city information boards, radio stations and official websites are used here, according to the city’s homepage.

The mix of different warning channels is intended to increase the reach and reliability of the warnings: “The more channels that are used in parallel, the higher the probability that the population will receive a warning in a timely manner.”
