Bundesliga top game: “A bit sickly”: Kompany only sees the top game while sitting

Sports director Christoph Freund said during the half-time break on Sky: “He’s not completely fit, that’s why he sits a lot and that’s why we also discussed that our assistant coaches should stand a bit more today. So, he’s a bit sickly, a bit beaten up too.” But the coach “had a completely normal meeting,” added Freund. “Everything’s good so far.”

Problems climbing stairs

Instead of Kompany, his assistant Aaron Danks gave instructions to the record champions’ footballers on the sidelines. TV images showed Kompany having to be supported as he ran up the stairs to the pitch for kick-off.

During the half-time break, the coach decided not to use the stairs and left the interior via an exit in the corner of the stadium. Accompanied by team doctor Roland Schmidt and friend Rodyse Munienge, he returned this way.
