The Iranian press threatens: “The disconnection of the cables has become certain”

Trump is portrayed as an addicted gambler, the internet cables in the Strait of Hormuz are marked as a target for attack and a puppet of the US president is seen on fire: the Iranian press today (Thursday) combines mockery of the US president with threats to expand the conflict. The gates present the mediation efforts as a failure and the rising energy prices as an achievement for Tehran, alongside an explicit message from the Revolutionary Guards – “we will surprise America and its allies”.

The Kihan newspaper, which is considered the mouthpiece of the Iranian regime, declared on its cover that “Aasm Munir returned empty-handed”, referring to the visit of the Pakistani army chief to Tehran. At the same time, the US president was mocked: “Trump, like an addicted gambler, loses again and again against Iran.” The article states that “Trump’s loneliness in the war with Iran is more evident every day”, and that he is in “unprecedented confusion and strategic confusion”.

At the same time as mockery, the newspaper highlights a military message from a senior official at the General Staff of the Armed Forces: “The doctrine of the production of weapons has changed according to the behavior of the enemy.” In another title, the words of an Iranian expert who identifies with the regime’s narrative are cited, who claimed that “the enemy must understand and believe that Iran has changed the strategic balance of power.” The newspaper also claimed that “Iran’s decisive response to the American ploy raised the price of oil to $111”.

The Iranian Gowan newspaper places a threat to the Internet cables in the Strait of Hormuz in the center of its article, alongside the words of Yadullah Javani, the assistant to the commander of the Revolutionary Guards for political affairs: “If they damage our infrastructure, the Internet cables in the Strait of Hormuz will be the target of an attack.”

The words of Revolutionary Guards spokesman Hossein Mohabbi are also quoted, who threatened that “the geography of the war will expand, and we will surprise America and its allies with additional events. We will see what happens.”

Mohabbi is later quoted as describing a change in military doctrine: “In the past we said that if a country attacks us, we will respond. Now we say that if a country attacks us, we will both respond and attack.” According to him, “If someone attacks us, we will attack him as he attacked us. There will be no more vague doctrine. We will attack the enemy in a way that will make him understand the strength of our action.”

Against the background of a picture of a Trump doll and the US flag on fire, the Iranian newspaper Vetan Amroz presents the opposition to the war with Iran as a central issue in the American election system: “The opposition to the war against Iran has become one of the most central issues in the US election campaigns.” According to the newspaper, “even Republican candidates explicitly distinguish themselves from the war.”

At the same time, under the title “The fire of war in the streets of Europe”, it is claimed that “the consequences of the war against Iran could lead to unrest and unprecedented economic demonstrations in the capitals of the West”.

The Iranian news agency Fars published last night a threat from a senior Iranian security official, who said that “if senior officials are eliminated and civilians are killed in another round of fighting, Iran will see the political goals of the United States and the participants in the war, along with their infrastructure, as legitimate goals.”

According to him, Iran assumes that an attack from the US and Israel will take place and considers “the American diplomatic gestures lacking credibility”. He added that Tehran already sees itself at war with the US, when the economic and naval blockade and the air restrictions are, for it, “a continuation of the military aggression”.
