This morning around 8 o’clock, the nuclear-powered American aircraft carrier USS George HW Bush (CVN-77) sailed into Split, writes Dalmacija Danas.
It is the youngest American aircraft carrier and one of the largest warships in the world. At the end of October, the Croatian government gave approval for its entry into the sea.
It is a Nimitz-class ship. Its length is 333 meters and it has a displacement of over 100,000 tons. Its maximum speed exceeds 30 knots, and it is powered by two nuclear reactors. It can sail for more than 20 years without refueling. The capacity of the ship is 3532 crew members and it can carry 90 planes and helicopters. The ship was built in 2009, and the construction cost was 6.2 billion dollars.
