Israel: Construction of a railway to Kiryat Shmona approved

The district commission for the design and construction of the Northern District approved the project for laying railway lines between Karmiel and Kiryat Shmona for the start of work.

Laying 54 kilometers of track will require significant financial investments, since more than 20 kilometers will pass in tunnels. In addition to the station at Kiryat Shmona, stations are planned at Hatzor Glilit, at the Koah/Hula Lake junction, at Mount Meron, and at Karmiel’s industrial area.

The line will initially be built for electric trains capable of speeds up to 160 km/h. The total cost of the project is estimated at 12 billion shekels.

It should be noted that at the moment the start of construction is unknown, since the funds for it are not included in the budget for the next five years.
