Bitcoin is flirting with the $100,000 mark on Thursday. The value of the best-known cryptocurrency has been on the rise since the re-election of Republican Donald Trump as American president.
On Friday morning, bitcoin hit a record of $99,505. The market expects a more flexible regulatory framework in the US under Trump and the creation of a strategic reserve in bitcoins. The previous and next president promised during the election campaign to make the US the “crypto capital of the planet”.
In addition, the announced departure of the CEO of the American stock exchange watchdog SEC boosted the share price. Gary Gensler, known as a supporter of stricter regulation of the crypto markets, will resign from his position at Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
The crypto market as a whole has already gained nearly $1 trillion in value since the US presidential elections on November 5.
