Faced with the request of gas companies to raise the price, Sheinbaum highlights support for the population

The policy of establishing maximum prices for LP gas will be maintained in the country because the energy must have a reasonable pricewhich allows gas companies to make profits without the population paying more, stressed President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

Last week, the companies members of the Mexican Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Distributors and Related Companies (Amexgas) demanded that the government review the price cap. At the beginning of this month, the National Gas Guild (GGN) threatened a strike, which it suspended after the Ministry of Energy established a dialogue table.

Asked yesterday about the gas companies’ request, President Sheinbaum expressed: The price of LP gas has to be reasonable, leaving profits for the gas company, but it must be a price that allows Mexican families, all those that use LP gas, not to be paying more. In other words, what is the reason for liberalizing the price if the established formula indicates that from the international price of transportation costs and at the same time, the profit?

When ruling out the request to release the price of this fuel, he explained that unlike gasoline, whose price is controlled with an adjustment in the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS), in the case of LP gas there is no some subsidy, but, he reiterated, a maximum price was established through a formula based on the international price and transportation costs, but which already contemplates the profit of gas carriers and distributors. This prevents prices from increasing without limit, he added.

She recalled that when she was head of Government of Mexico City, the price of fuel decreased by almost 30 percent, after They increased it only by agreements between them, not because it really represented a change in international prices.. As part of the negotiations, companies were supported in terms of security for delivery; We can continue to support them in that, but we have a responsibility, and so do they, with the popular economy.
