The administration of US President Donald Trump is promoting an initiative under which the signature of the head of state could appear on all US banknotes. Vanity Fair magazine reports this.
According to the publication, the US Treasury is already preparing new printing forms, and updated bills may go into circulation in the coming months.
As Vanity Fair notes, this is not a temporary measure: Trump’s signature should remain on the bills until a future administration reverses the decision.
The publication writes that the president’s signature will replace the signature of the US Treasurer and will be placed next to the signature of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The publication emphasizes that if implemented, this will be the first time in US history that the signature of a sitting president will appear on American currency. U.S. notes typically bear the signatures of the Secretary of the Treasury and the Treasurer.
