An important requirement is to have had at least 6 months of work with contributions in the last 3 years prior to dismissal or termination of the contract.

In the case of casual and seasonal workers, the requirement is to have worked less than 12 months in the last 3 years and more than 90 days in the last year, before the end of the job.

The amount and number of installments (between 2 and 12) are calculated according to income and months worked (with contributions) during the last 3 years. Workers over 45 years of age are paid for 6 more months.

In 2023, the Minimum Wage Council established that the unemployment benefit must be equivalent to 75% of the worker’s best, normal and usual monthly remuneration in the 6 months prior to the cessation of work that caused unemployment.

But the Council Resolution clarified that “In no case can the monthly benefit be less than 50% of the current Minimum Living and Mobile Wage nor higher than 100%”. This ceiling practically cancels the equivalence of 75% of the best remuneration of the last 6 months prior to dismissal.
