Fuel prices: why home helpers have their foot on the brake despite the boost at the pump

They’ve been seeing red for weeks. With the explosion in fuel prices, home helpers – who provide daily support to the sick, the elderly or people with disabilities – are no longer available. Too many kilometers on the clock, too much time variation, too many constraints, too much fatigue. And not enough salary. The average pay for a home helper is 940 euros, below the poverty line at 1,288 euros. This is why they were targeted by Matignon among the big riders to help urgently in boosting the pump.

“We are happy to have finally been heard but we will have to look at the measure in detail,” is wary of Julien Jourdan, the general director of the personal services federation. And when we are told that the application will be available at the end of May, I say to myself: but what do we do until then! Many home helpers are starting to feel that working is costing them too much. We risk having stops everywhere. »
