Microsoft invests billion in Australia’s AI infrastructure

Microsoft has announced plans to invest A$25 billion (about US$18 billion) in Australia by the end of 2029. This is the company’s largest investment outside the United States.

According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, “Australia has a huge opportunity to turn AI into real economic growth.”

The corporation’s plans include expanding the Azure cloud infrastructure by at least 140% by 2029, building additional data centers in Melbourne and Sydney, collaborating on cybersecurity with Australian government agencies, and training three million Australians in artificial intelligence tools by 2028.

It should be noted that Microsoft is not the only one betting on Australia. Amazon has committed to invest A$20 billion, while OpenAI has signed an agreement for A$7 billion.
