“Not the excitement of yesteryear”: rue de Rennes in Paris, fashion is no longer in clothing stores

The letters fade. Those of Nodus, the shirt and men’s ready-to-wear brand placed in liquidation in April 2025, disappear from the storefront of 107, rue de Rennes (Paris VIe), like those of Kookaï a little further away, at 155. JD Sports very recently lowered its curtain and left piles of boxes behind its gates. Eyeshow’s glasses are still on display, but the premises are “to be sold”.

A space of 350 m2 is looking for a buyer at number 62, another of 70 m2 at 77. The 1.1 km artery, one of the most commercial in the capital, is not exempt from the phenomenon which particularly affects the clothing sector. The cause: often high rents, the profound change in purchasing behavior and the rise of ultra-fast fashion which is attracting customers who were once loyal to physical stores.
