La Jornada: There is no rush to conclude the war with Iran, even if gasoline prices rise: Trump

Washington. The president of the United States, Donald Trump, stated yesterday that he is in “no rush” to end his country’s and Israel’s war against Iran, and acknowledged that Americans will pay more for gasoline “for a while.”

“I don’t want to rush it,” Trump told reporters at the White House, adding that the reward for paying more for higher fuel prices will be an “Iran without a nuclear weapon.” Energy prices have risen around the world since the start of the war with Iran in late February.

Trump was asked if Americans “should expect to spend more on gasoline in the near future.” “For a while,” the tycoon responded.

Rising gas prices caused by the United States and Israel’s war against Iran have created a dilemma for Trump’s Republican Party ahead of the November midterm elections.

The president has claimed that gas prices could remain high through November, but has tried to downplay concerns.

The war in Iran has almost completely paralyzed traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic point through which around 20 percent of world shipments of oil and liquefied natural gas transit.

“I’m probably the person in the least rush ever in this position. I have all the time in the world, but Iran doesn’t. Time keeps passing!” Trump previously wrote on the Truth Social social network. “Time is not on their side!” he asserted.

The president insisted that any peace deal with Iran would be reached on the United States’ terms and according to his own timetable. “The agreement can only be reached when it is appropriate and good for the United States, our allies and, indeed, the rest of the world,” he wrote.

Trump asserted Wednesday that there is “no deadline” to end the war “and no time pressures” for the expanded ceasefire on Tuesday or for the stalled talks.
