Trump’s message caused Wall Street to react

Stock markets wobbled on Wall Street on Monday as investors weighed mixed data on talks between the United States and Iran. The goal of the United States is to end the conflict and open the Strait of Hormuz to globally important energy transports.

The fall in stock indexes slowed on Monday after Pres Donald Trump said he had canceled the attack on Iran planned for Tuesday due to ongoing negotiations. Earlier on Monday, the parties said that they had rejected the latest proposals.

According to Trump, the postponement was requested by the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Trump says in a message published on his Truth Social channel that the attacks may continue if a negotiated agreement with Iran is not reached.

The rise in oil prices leveled off a bit. However, interest rates on government bonds remained close to their multi-year highs, as fears of accelerating inflation have grown.

The situation in the Strait of Hormuz is still difficult. The strait is practically closed to commercial traffic, which reduces the supply of oil worldwide and depletes stocks. On Monday, the United States granted a new exemption for the sale of Russian crude oil in order to stabilize the market. The exemption permits the purchase of Russian oil transported by sea for a period of 30 days.

The S&P 500, which broadly tracks large companies, eventually fell 0.1 percent. The technology-focused Nasdaq weakened by 0.5 percent.

The flagship company index Dow Jones, on the other hand, strengthened by 0.3 percent. The Russell 2000 index, which tracks small companies, fell 0.7 percent.

From large technology companies Nvidia decreased by 1.3 percent. The company will announce its interim report on Wednesday.

Electric car company Tesla slipped 2.9 percent. Social media company Meta decreased by 0.5 percent and the Iphone manufacturer Apple 0.8 percent.

E-commerce and cloud service company Amazon instead, the software company strengthened by 0.3 percent Microsoft 0.4 percent. Internet company Alphabet remained in a gentle rise close to its closing level on Friday.
