China will buy 200 Boeing aircraft

Beijing first confirmed Boeing’s aircraft order in today’s statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. However, this country did not specify the aircraft lines it will buy.

Previously, on May 15, US President Donald Trump also said that China would buy 200 Boeing aircraft and pledged to increase it to 750 aircraft.

China’s Ministry of Commerce said the US will ensure the supply of aircraft engine components and spare parts within the framework of the agreement with Boeing.

During the period 2005-2017, China ordered an average of 127 aircraft per year. However, since then, airlines in this country have only ordered an average of 6 aircraft per year.

The two sides will also seek to cut reciprocal tariffs on goods worth $30 billion or more, according to China’s Ministry of Commerce. Beijing emphasized that US tariffs imposed on Chinese goods must not exceed the level agreed in last year’s agreement.

“If tariffs are reduced for about 30 billion USD of goods, this number is only equivalent to about 10% of US imports from China, not large enough to change GDP growth forecasts,” said Mr. Zhiwei Zhang, Chairman and chief economist of Pinpoint Asset Management.

However, he said that this is still a positive step as the two countries maintain dialogue to stabilize bilateral relations. “That is still good news for global investors,” this expert shared.

The statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce came after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said there was “no rush” to extend the trade truce and strategic minerals agreement with China. This shows that the two sides still have many rounds of negotiations in the near future.

China’s Ministry of Commerce said the two countries will coordinate to address each other’s concerns related to export controls. Along with that, Beijing also continues to consider licensing the export of strategic minerals, including rare earths, for civilian purposes.

On May 18, the White House said China would buy at least $17 billion in US agricultural products in the 2026-2028 period, in addition to existing commitments on soybeans.

The Chinese side did not confirm this number, but reported that the two sides had achieved “positive results” in the agricultural sector and agreed to open markets to each other. Beijing restored registration for qualified US beef exporters and resumed imports of some US poultry products.

On the contrary, the US committed to removing or handling a number of non-tariff barriers with Chinese agricultural products, creating conditions for the export of this country’s dairy products.
