The “Geisterburg” restaurant in Hall in Tirol is loud AQUA filed for bankruptcy. About the assets of the operating company Gastronom Gesellschaft mbH & Co KG Bankruptcy proceedings were opened at the Innsbruck regional court on Wednesday. 22 employees are affected by the bankruptcy.

Debt of 430,000 euros

According to the AKV, the liabilities amount to around 430,000 euros. This is offset by assets of only around 85,000 euros in fixed assets and low liquid funds. The restaurant itself is not owned by the debtor, but is leased.

Gastronom Gesellschaft mbH & Co KG, based on Anichstrasse in Innsbruck, has existed since 1968. However, the company only took over the operation of the “Ghost Castle” in 2022. The managing director is Markus Hannes Josef Cammerlander, who is also involved as a limited partner with a liability sum of almost 14,535 euros.

Historic building as a cost trap

The debtor cites the enormous investment backlog in the historic building, which already existed when the business was taken over, as the main reason for the imbalance. The ongoing high repair costs would have put a massive strain on operations. A general renovation is unavoidable, but the necessary seven-figure funds cannot be raised. The situation was made worse by personnel problems: frequent absences of employees, which had to be compensated, led to excessive personnel expenses.

No renovation in sight

The company is now on holiday and is temporarily closed. As things currently stand, the debtor is not seeking restructuring. Theoretically, an application for a restructuring plan could still be submitted, but given the circumstances this seems unlikely. The insolvency proceedings are ongoing at the Innsbruck regional court under the reference number 19 S 25/26p.
