Bloomberg: Finnair is negotiating new internet connections with Elon Musk’s company

Finnair has negotiated with SpaceX and Amazon to arrange an in-flight Wi-Fi connection for its planes, reports the news agency Bloomberg.

CEO of Finnair Fur Kuusisto told Bloomerg at the annual meeting of airline trade association IATA in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Saturday that the company plans to make a decision on a service provider sometime this year.

However, it is still too early to say when the decision will be announced.

Several airlines such as Emirates, Lufthansa and United Airlines have chosen Elon Musk’s services of Starlink system owned by SpaceX. The American company Delta Air Lines has chosen Amazon Leo, which has emerged as SpaceX’s competitor.

Hex tree told Bloomberg in the same context that the demand for Finnair’s flights from Europe to Asia is “quite strong”. According to Kuusisto, Finnair has benefited from the fact that passengers have chosen the company’s services because of the war in the Middle East.

Demand for the United States, on the other hand, has remained flat.

According to Kuusisto, Finnair’s fuel reserve is good for the summer season, but if the Iran war drags on, the risks related to fuel availability will increase.
