The World Bank adjusted its projection on the Argentine economy and estimates that it will grow 3.6% this year

The update was released this Tuesday in the Global Economic Outlook report (Global Economic Prospects), in which also revised downward the forecasts for much of the world economy in the face of a scenario of lower growth and greater trade tensions.

For Argentina, the World Bank projects an expansion of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 3.6% in 2026 and foresees growth similar for the following two years. In this way, it moderated the estimate for this year by 0.4 percentage points compared to the report published in January and also slightly adjusted the outlook for the subsequent period.

The organization noted that activity showed a slowdown in the first months of the year. “Growth strengthened in early 2026 in several South American economies, partly reflecting positive carryover from late 2025, although moderated in Argentina due to monetary conditions that continue to be restrictive“he indicated.

In matters of inflationhighlighted the progress observed after the economic stabilization program. According to the report, core inflation “was markedly reduced in Argentina after stabilization measures previously adopted, although monetary conditions remain restrictive”.

The World Bank also highlighted that the country will benefit from its status as a net energy exporter. “Among net energy exporters, lHigher energy prices will support export income and external balances“, held.

In this context, he considered that “in Argentina, growth is projected to remain relatively solid and stable, around 3.6% during 2026-2028, supported by exports, but limited by restrictive monetary and fiscal policies in the domestic sphere”.

The new projection is known a few weeks after the International Monetary Fund also revised downwards its forecasts for the Argentine economy. In the April update of its global outlook report, the IMF estimated that GDP will grow 3.5% this year, up from the 4% it had projected in January.

According to sources from the organization, the adjustment responded “largely to the lower boost in activity in the second half of last year.” For 2027, the Fund maintained a growth forecast of 4%.

If the estimates of both organizations materialize, Argentina would continue ranking among the best performing economies in Latin America during this year, although with a more gradual recovery than expected at the beginning of 2026. The average for the region is a planned expansion of 2.2% this year and 2.5% in 2027.
