Geopolitics and development: Argentina’s challenges in the face of a global order in transformation

The event, titled “Expanding competitive boundaries”will bring together renowned specialists such as Ricardo Arriazu, Dante Sica, Carlos Pérez Llana, Martín Rapetti and Francisco de Santibañes to dissect the new world scenario.

Likewise, there will be the diplomatic vision of ambassadors Erik Høeg (European Union) and Julio Bitelli (Brazil), along with Matthew Stokes, economic advisor of the US embassy. The private sector will also contribute its diagnosis through references such as Horacio Marín (YPF), Marcos Bulgheroni (PAE), Dolores Brizuela (Dow), Martín Zuppi (Stellantis) and Javier Martínez Álvarez (Techint), who will evaluate the impact of these dynamics on the business fabric.

Beyond being a space for debate, the D&D cycle—which is sponsored by Techint, Personal, Pan American Energy and Banco Macro— seeks to draw up a precise diagnosis and raise concrete proposals to promote national progress.

The geopolitical reordering impacts the country through the volatility in commodity prices, the alteration in demand from its trading partners and greater competition in the market for final goods. In parallelinternational uncertainty conditions access to capital markets and foreign direct investment flows, although factors such as the energy potential of Vaca Muerta and the mining boom position the country in an expectant manner.

In this framework of growing macroeconomic stability, the local productive sector is forced to undergo a comprehensive reinvention: from the optimization of logistics and the adoption of artificial intelligence to the development of new links with the consumer. Simultaneously, The social challenge lies in achieving harmonious and inclusive development.

Looking to the future, it will be imperative to address complex phenomena such as population aging, prevention of “Dutch disease” and the displacement of the productive axis towards the Andean region and the interior of the country, with its consequent implications on the labor market.

The day, led by journalists Carolina Amoroso, Ignacio Miri, Horacio Riggi, Silvia Naishtat and Santiago Spaltrowill be articulated in four thematic tables:

“The keys to the changing global scenario”: It will analyze geopolitical evolution, Argentina’s positioning and the impact of increased international competition. It will have the participation of the doctor in international relations Carlos Pérez Llana, the president of CARI Fernando de Santibañez, and the economists Ricardo Arriazu, Dante Sica (abeceb) and Martín Rapetti (Equilibria).

“Strategic links, cooperation and international trade”: Divided into two blocks, it will address with the ambassadors of Brazil and the EU, Julio Bitelli and Erik Høeg, the implications of the Mercosur-European Union agreement; and with the Economic Advisor of the US Embassy in Buenos Aires, Matthew Stokes, Washington’s role in this new economic stage.

“Strengths and barriers of industrial competitiveness”: The Vice President of the Techint Group Javier Martínez Alvarez, and the CEOs of Dow Argentina and Southern Region Dolores Brizuela and Stellantis Martín Zuppi. They will debate the ability of the local industry to adapt to globalization.

“The energy leap and the opportunity for the country”: The closing will feature the Group CEO of PAE Marcos Bulgheroni and the CEO of YPF Horacio Marin, who will analyze the strategic role of Vaca Muerta and the role of Argentina in the global energy transition.

The Democracy and Development cycle will continue with two other meetings scheduled for this year, focused on public policies for investment and infrastructure development.
