The decentralized institution of the Ministry of Economy (SE) indicated, in a statement, that last Thursday, 15 brigades of specialized personnel carried out verification tours around the perimeter of the stadium located in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
The IMPI indicated that with such action it sought to inhibit the marketing of apocryphal merchandise related to brands, emblems, mascots and protected distinctive signs linked to the 2026 World Cup.
For this reason, it provided direct guidance to nearly 350 merchants and service providers, so that they refrain from offering products that reproduce without authorization elements protected by intellectual property legislation, as well as informing them about the possible legal consequences of these behaviors. He highlighted that on this occasion there were no seizures of merchandise nor were any sanctions or provisional measures imposed.
Vidal Llerenas, general director of IMPI, commented that, as a result of these actions, a significant decrease was observed in the presence of points of sale of apocryphal merchandise in the vicinity of the Guadalajara stadium.
In addition, the official indicated that due to the presence of security elements, the presence of irregular trade linked to this type of products within the perimeter of the facility was deterred.
Regarding the illegal broadcasts of the 2026 World Cup matches, the IMPI reported that it has managed to remove 140 web addresses, which is part of its comprehensive strategy to combat piracy during the sporting event.
The agency’s communications area indicated to The Day that so far the holders of the transmission rights have not requested the IMPI to sanction any bar, restaurant or business for the illegal transmission of the sports event.
The agency noted that in operations carried out recently, the institute has secured at least 99 thousand pieces of apocryphal merchandise, with an estimated value of 13 million 885 thousand pesos. These actions include interventions in Plaza Olimpia, on April 22; Izazaga, 29 and 81, on May 21, and Plaza Cristal, on June 8.
