Wizz Air has resumed negotiations with the Ministry of Transport about establishing its “base” in Israel. This was reported by the N12 news service.
It should be noted that the process of creating an operational center at Ben Gurion Airport was frozen by the Israeli Ministry of Transport on May 6 due to the fact that the Hungarian airline stopped flying to Israel amid the worsening situation with Iran. Wizz Air began flying to Israel again on May 28.
Establishing a Wizz Air base at Ben Gurion Airport would mean not just expanding the number of flights to Israel, but effectively turning the country into one of the airline’s operating centers. In this case, the carrier’s planes and crews would constantly be in Israel, operating flights from Tel Aviv as their “home” airport. This would open up more routes, increase flight frequencies and increase competition in the market, potentially leading to lower airfare prices. However, the project depends on approvals from the Israeli authorities, the availability of slots at Ben Gurion and the operating conditions of the airline during periods of aggravated security situations.
